Disciple Bible Studies

Disciple I: Becoming Disciples Through Study

Work through the Bible in manageable segments.  Here is an opportunity to not only learn the Bible story and how to study the Bible, but to also allow the Bible to transform your life.  Reading of the Scripture is an essential part of the preparation for weekly class time, where participants experience a brief video lecture by a noted scholar, and engage the Scripture through group discussion under the guidance of a trained leader.  Fee: $37

Christian Believer: Knowing God With Heart and Mind

This study assumes that participants are already followers of Jesus and that they come to study to understand the faith they already have. The curriculum emphasizes the head as well as the heart. It recognizes that Christians say the creeds without understanding everything, or even assenting to everything in them, because in saying them they identify with the people and the tradition shaped by the confessions. They recognize that “faith seeking understanding” is a part of Christian experience. Christian Believer allows space for questions, doubts, and dissentPre-requisite: Disciple I

Fee:  $40 (for study manual and Book of Readings)

Senior Adult Bible Study

Philippians

A favorite of Paul’s letters, addressed to the congregation with whom he felt closest, and the first Christian congregation established on the continent of Europe.  It is notable that Paul was writing from prison, but the dominant mood is joy!  Our study will get at how Paul was able to be joyful even in those dire straits.

Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Sept. 8 - 29 (4 weeks)                                                            Leader:  Rev. Jim McCormick

Why Does Mary Wear Blue and Jesus Wear White?

Have you ever noticed the stained glass windows at RUMC or any other church?  Have you wondered about who the people in the windows are, what the pictures mean, or why someone went to so much trouble to put them in the church?  Find out a little bit about the language and symbolism used in stained glass windows and the images that they depict.  Then take this knowledge on a virtual tour of the RUMC campus to see how *we* tell the story of God's work, God's Word, and God's role for us in the world.  Free.
