Care Ministries

Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. -
1 Peter 4:10

The Serve Team is committed to changing lives through caring acts and missions, both within our congregation and to the ends of the earth. We encourage members to learn about their spiritual gifts so that they sample, engage, and model service in an area of ministry where they have a passion. It takes members of all ages working together to care for needs within our church family and in the places Christ calls us beyond our church. Our primary Care Ministries programs focus on caring acts, missions, and service. If you are in need of these ministries, or wish to participate by offering caring serice to others, contact De Lee Udelson, 770.261.1741 or dudelson@rumc.com.

Some of our Care Ministries include:

Prayer Quilt

This outreach ministry combines the gift of a hand-tied quilt with the gift of prayer for someone in need. The quilts are machine-stitched and may be completed by several members of the ministry. Each knot tied into the quilt represents a prayer that was offered specifically for the recipient of the quilt. After the quilts are completed, friends, family, and the congregation will say prayers as they tie these knots for each recipient.

Knowing how to quilt is not a requirement for participating. We need people to pre-wash fabric, cut patterns and fabric, iron, pin, machine sew, hand sew, etc. In very few cases will one person make an entire quilt from beginning to end. It's a time to work and fellowship. Much of the work can even be done at home, so it's flexible. The Prayer Quilt Ministry members meet the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Dodson Youth building, room 141 (Cornith).

Card Writing

Send handwritten notes of care and concern. RUMC provides all necessary materials for this ministry. The ministry has two teams of volunteers; team members write notes every other month. Much of the correspondence between the team and their leader is done by email, but other arrangements can be made for volunteers who do not have email access.

Daily Devotional Line

Volunteers record a short devotional and prayer daily that you may listen to by calling the prayer line, 770.640.2266. Training for volunteers is provided, the recording process is simple, and you can record from your home or cell phone.

Share-a-Dish

Food can be a great source of comfort when someone is ill or hurting. Do you remember a time as a child when you may have been ill with the flu or a cold? Kind words of encouragement and a soothing bowl of soup prepared by your mother not only made you feel better physically, it made you feel cared for. This is the goal of the Share-A-Dish Ministry. We provide nourishing, home-cooked meals to those who are going through a time of crisis or need. Sometimes, those who are hurting just need to know that there is someone who cares. This is a tangible way to show the love of Christ.

The Share-A-Dish Ministry provides individually prepared frozen meals to people on a short-term basis when they are recovering from a hospital stay, experiencing a long-term illness, suffering from a death in the family, or are blessed with a new baby in the family through birth or adoption. Flower Delivery After the second worship service each Sunday the Altar Guild breaks down the large flower arrangements from the Sanctuary into small arrangements that volunteers deliver to our friends in hospitals and nursing homes. This ministry needs a coordinator.

Pet Ministries
