45 Years of Scouting at RUMC

RUMC has been supporting the Boy Scouts of American (BSA) programs for the past 45 years. In fact in 2011 our Boy Scout Troop 431 celebrated their 45th Anniversary with RUMC. What a milestone! At RUMC we support three scouting programs; Club Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing. They are:

Cub Scout Pack 845 - for boys in first grade through fifth grade. At RUMC we have 73 Cub Scouts. Cub Scouting means "doing." You have lots to do as a Cub Scout—crafts, games, sports, pine wood derby, and field trips to name a few things. They go camping, do other kinds of outdoor adventures, and take part in community events. The Pack helps boys grow into good citizens who are strong in character and personally fit. Cub Scouts do all sorts of exciting stuff!

Boy Scout Troop 431 - the flagship program of the BSA for boys ages 11 to 18. At RUMC we have 52 Boy Scouts and to date Troop 431 has had 143 Scouts reach the highest rank Scouting has to offer - - Eagle Scout! In 2012 another 10 Scouts should achieve the rack of Eagle Scout. Boy Scouts uses outdoor activities such as camping, aquatics and hiking to achieve the aims of character, citizenship and personal fitness training. The Boy Scout Motto; Be Prepared and the Scout Law; A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent is what builds boys into men.

Venturing Crew 1 - a youth development program for young men and women who are 14 years of age and under 21 years of age. At RUMC we have 13 Crew members. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

The Scouting programs at RUMC have always been recognized in the community as “One of the Best” and we want to keep it that way. Therefore your help is needed in three ways;

  1. Join one of the Scouting programs, both adults and youth.
  2. Adults, volunteer to help even if you do not have a child in scouting.
  3. Financially, it takes money to run these programs and your support is needed and always welcome.
