We are drawn to the stories in the Bible of Jesus calling fishermen, tax collectors, teachers, and ordinary people to come and follow Him. These stories speak to us today because they are about people like you and me who are seeking more from our everyday life than fishing nets, materialistic goals, and basic information. The vision of Roswell United Methodist Church is "making passionate disciples" for Jesus Christ. But how does a big church do that?

The Journey is a travel plan for navigating the opportunities at RUMC, with an ultimate destination in mind. It is a way to integrate new members into our church community and at the same time increase the spiritual maturity of current members so that we can all learn from each other.

The Journey is necessary to equip us to intentionally use our head (information/knowledge), hands (actions), and heart (attitudes/motivations), and to join Jesus in His work. Because we are not all at the same point in our journies, this process allows us to join at different stages.

This travel plan is intended to provide direction for those who are "getting started," food for those who have a hunger to "go deeper," adventure for the experienced believer who has committed to "pressing on," and challenging in-depth exploration for the spiritually mature who are walking "in Jesus' steps."

• Getting Started – Assisted by a "Guide," new members complete an orientation class, choose a worship service, visit Sunday School classes, and participate in short introductory classes (examples: introduction to the Bible and the Christian faith; focused studies on stewardship; and spiritual gifts).

• Going Deeper – Assisted by a "Guide," disciples join or form covenant/small groups, explore missions, and journey deeper by committing to more in-depth studies such as United Methodist beliefs, spiritual disciplines, surveys of the Old and New Testaments, and personal ministry discernment.

• Pressing On – At this point in The Journey, disciples take personal responsibility for their walk. They belong to a covenant group, Sunday School class, or other group which nurtures and encourages them, empowers them to claim a mission, and inspires them to journey even deeper into God’s Word (available curriculum options include Christian Believer, Disciple, etc.)

• In Jesus' Steps – In this leg of The Journey, passionate disciples commit to walk "In Jesus' Steps" with their entire being. Their life and relationships are fully aligned with the purpose of passionate discipleship and they are ready to explore more challenging opportunities and in-depth training to follow Jesus and develop other passionate disciples for Him.
