Did You Know? The RUMC Foundation is at work enabling missionary work across the street and around the world?

The Foundation’s Board of Directors recently approved grants to:

  • provide funding for our annual Community Thanksgiving Meal for local families who are homeless or in transitional housing,
  • help cover expenses for our middle school students’ summer mission camp that focuses on serving those in need within our community,
  • sponsor HomeStretch’s upcoming Run the River road race,
  • purchase medications and medical supplies (such as vision testing equipment, reading glasses, and dental supplies) for RUMC’s upcoming medical mission trip to Peru,
  • provide more than 300 Bibles in the Ashaninka language for distribution by our missionaries to villagers in remote portions of Peru (this will be the first time a Bible will be available to them in their native tongue), and
  • help fund this summer’s high school mission trip to Divine Providence Training Center in Kenya – including covering the costs of the trip’s on-ground ministry activities (such as orphanage visits, two service days, a VBS day, a sports camp, etc.), and the participants’ travel visa costs.

Mission-related endowment investment earnings as well as unendowed Foundation Missions funds made support of these RUMC mission trips, partners, and events possible.

Did You Know? The RUMC Foundation is at work improving and protecting your church’s campus?

The Foundation’s Board of Directors recently approved grants to:
1. purchase a defibrillator for the lower level of “A” building,
2. replace very old, well-worn custodial equipment as well as the tables in the dining room and B229, and
3. purchase a rolling platform for our Sanctuary pipe organ console that will enable it to be moved as needed to accommodate our different worship services and Sanctuary activities without damaging the instrument.

Investment earnings during 2012 from The Foundation’s Smiley Family, Facilities, and Joan Wheeler Hagan endowment funds made these generous and needed contributions possible. The endowment dollars from each of these funds remain intact and are invested to generate more income during 2013.

Did You Know? The RUMC Foundation is at work supporting RUMC’s Financial Peace University ministry?

The Foundation’s Board of Directors recently approved a grant to fund one partial scholarship per FPU class offered at RUMC through 2014. Overall, 14 families, who otherwise would not be able to, will benefit from the financial management practices taught in FPU. This vital RUMC ministry has touched and improved many lives in our church family and community over the years and also serves as an invitational opportunity to RUMC for unchurched participants.

The RUMC Foundation at work helping fund new ministry...

The RUMC Foundation recently provided seed money to rejuvenate our Young Adults Ministry, for which there was renewed interest but no budget. With the Foundation’s help, our young adults enjoyed six events last year, such as cookouts and a ministry summit, and also have a budget for activities this year. The Foundation also provided start-up resources for our new Parent’s Morning Out program (which will be self-funding through tuition payments going forward) that offers parents “loving, trustworthy, weekday childcare for children 3-18 months old in a Christian environment.”

The Foundation’s Board of Directors recently approved a grant to purchase “Recipe for Learning,” an exciting new reading program for the kindergarten class. Also purchased were magnetic gears, shapes, letters, numbers and tabletop easels to enhance RUMCK's 3- and 4 year-old classes as well as additional children’s Christmas nativities for use throughout the school.

Did you know that The RUMC Foundation is at work helping The Drake House?

The Foundation’s Board of Directors recently approved a grant to purchase the materials needed for Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, part of The Drake House’s 2013 Life Skills Workshops for its residents. The Drake House, an RUMC mission partner, provides short term crisis housing, assessment, support, and empowerment to homeless mothers and their children in the North Fulton area. They provide immediate residential housing, combined with an empowerment program designed to provide stability for the children and assist the family in working toward housing self-sufficiency.

The RUMC Foundation, Inc. celebrates

a successful golf tournament!

More than 130 golfers and volunteers enjoyed a beautiful day of fun, fellowship, putts, and drives at the 15th Annual Malone Dodson Golf Tournament on Oct. 15. Not only was the event enjoyable, it also raised more than $30,000 (after expenses) to help with the operations and ministry of The RUMC Foundation, Inc. Many thanks to all those faithful RUMC members and our sponsors that helped make the success of this annual event possible.
